Description Audience What's in the box?
The Harm Free Game is a refreshing and alternative board game created to help healthcare staff better understand their responsibilities around the prevention of avoidable patient harms.

The board game features patients in different health and social care settings. Players work together to risk-assess their patients for harms such as falls or pressure ulcers. This occurs through interaction, discussion and joint decision making. Fully assessed patients are sent to the “safe zone” to be evaluated by the game’s facilitator. The game is most effective when run by someone with a working knowledge of the Harm Free Care programme, although this is not an absolute requirement.

The Harm Free Game supports the NHS Harm Free Care programme and was a finalist in the Patient Safety Awards 2013. It promotes teamwork, discussion and reflective practice. Participants can share their experiences, reflect on them and use this to improve the way they work. It presents a refreshing alternative to traditional styles of learning - although the subject is serious, learning can still be fun. The Harm Free Game is an engaging and effective way to support staff in making changes to reduce avoidable patient harm.
