Serious Games. Boards vs. Bytes

Serious Games. Boards vs. Bytes

Games for training and education are getting lots more attention, and that's great because we make serious games. However, most of the attention is focussed on digital games and we make board games. So,

Are we out-of-touch? Stuck in the past?

We don't think so.

A quick analysis of the board games’ market shows they are increasingly popular as a leisure activity, especially among young people. The UK, France and Germany are the most enthusiastic consumers of board games. In France a board game is sold every 4 seconds. So, you probably employ lots of people who are playing board games outside of work.

Why not harness that enthusiasm at work?

Digital games can be great. But they deliver a solitary experience. And that’s fine in certain situations but not all the time. For many issues learning is more effective in groups when people can learn with each other, and from each other.

Games allow staff to explore and discuss new ideas and new ways of working in a safe environment. Games give players the opportunity to share valuable knowledge and experiences. The fact that they'll have fun and develop their relationships is a bonus. Games are always lively but groups never forget why they're playing.

That’s why we think boards are better than bytes, sometimes.

Since 2004 we’ve developed over 60 games and they cover a wide range of issues from team performance to diarrhoea. Most of our games don’t need a specialist facilitator and staff manage their own learning, in the workplace. You get all the benefits of face-to-face without the usual overheads.

Sceptical? Give it a go! Try one of our board games.

BTW we also make digital games. We have embraced bytes too. Just not as tightly.
