The Bioeconomy game has been developed with the THYME project, an innovative collaboration between the Universities of York, Hull and Teesside to boost the bioeconomy across Yorkshire, the Humber region and the Tees Valley. The project is an exemplar for good practice in knowledge exchange between higher education institutions (HEIs) and industry, attracting trade and inward investment into sustainable bio-based industries and our HEIs.
The Bioeconomy Game uses a simulation style mechanism to help players understand how a city or locality can function as a bioeconomy, developing their understanding of how bio-based products can be created and used to support sustainable growth in the area.
Players are divided into teams that represent different communities in a city. Their objective is to minimise the amount of waste going to landfill, and to instead create value from waste by reusing and recycling it in innovative and sustainable ways. Teams will be faced with challenges which they must overcome and opportunities to improve the bioeconomy through investing in recycling technologies and infrastructure.
